Why hasnt he asked me to be his girlfriend yet?

i like this guy a lot. we met at church about 4 months ago. We only talked a few times during sunday school but i like him so much. we've already been on 2 dates and he asked me to go on another date this thurs. i saw him at church today and he is plannin on going to seattle on the 4th so i asked him if the plans are still on for thursday evening and he said "probably not b/c i gotta get ready to go to seattle, but i'll let you know." he tried to invite me to go to the main church service w/ him but instead i went to the other service. he seemed kinda disappointed. the only reason i went to the other service is b/c mom was waiting on me there. :/ i should have gone and sat with him..we've been on 2 dates but he hasnt asked me to be his gf yet and i really want to be with him..i cant stop thinking about him :/ he's AMAZING. we have such great chemistry and a lot in common. he asks to take me boat riding and we went out to dinner and a movie. he even showed me his place for a min to get a few chairs and blankets for the movie on the lake...can i ask him if he wants to be with me or is it too soon?? please help!!! i've known him since feb or march..and had a crush on him since then but just started going on dates a month ago..
